Firefighters responding to what seemed like a routine house fire in Buffalo, New York, discovered the bodies of 31-year-old new mom Kathleen “Katie” Carrig and her 4-day-old son, Noah, inside the home. Investigators soon determined the blaze had been set to cover up a homicide, revealing that Catie had been strangled before the fire. Her boyfriend, Kidane Haile—an employee at the University at Buffalo—has been charged with second-degree murder and remains in custody as authorities continue investigating Noah’s death.
